Saltans Voces (2024) [String Ensemble] Premiered on 07/24/2024 by Momica Lu, Nichole Aye, Cristian Yohannes, Maggie Liu, and CJ Inkenhaus. I wrote this piece during camp when I was sick. I had a horrible fever. I was desperate to continue being in touch with music. I was lying on a bed in the health center and I opened my computer, started composing in my head, and translated it into software. I was frustrated because I felt I had no variety in my music. I created an interesting tremolo arpeggiated pattern for Violin II that brought the piece together well. I had whole notes being sustained by the violoncello and contrabass in the beginning, which I was bored by, so I deleted some beats, making an interesting combination of dotted half notes, dotted quarter notes, quarter notes, and eight notes.

Tethered (2024) [Solo Piano] Premiered on 08/02/2024 by Nora Moor. When I first began this piece, I was sitting inside a practice room wondering what to compose for my final recital and how I would start it. At first, I had no idea for this piece. I began this piece as a simple improvisation, and it slowly transformed itself into a gesture of yearning for flight. Through deeper analysis of my piece, I noticed a lot of build-up and climbing up the piano to higher notes, but then falling, evoking a sense of hope and yearning for freedom, only to be pulled back down. This piece is meant to be interpreted with an understanding of its themes of striving for liberation while grappling with the weight of restraint.
